"SHE EXTENDS HER HANDS TO THE NEEDY..."
(UPDATED 10/14)
Proverbs 31:20 says~ "She extends her hand to the poor, and stretches out her hands to the needy. The women of SBC are ready and willing to stretch out their hands to help the poor and needy victims of this catastrophic hurricane! I believe that our efforts may be more effective if we joined hands w/ a larger organization. Here are some opportunities that we've checked into:
- Christ for Humanity~ so far they have not contacted me w/ specific info about any projects they are involved w/.
- Tulsa Housing Authority~ the org. in charge of the housing projects in Tulsa. Very pro-Christian and have coordinated w/ us to do Bible studies etc in apartments. They are housing hurricane evacuees in some of the apt. complexes in Tulsa (Comanche is one of them) They would probably appreciate our church's involvement w/ these people. The contact info is Robin Birchfield 581-5732~ she's the person in charge of housing for these people.
- Red Cross is no longer an option.
- Salvation Army~ if anyone plans to go out to Camp Gruber, they have to first be screened by SA. Not sure how this process works, but you can't just show up at Camp Gruber and expect to help out, etc. You have to go thru SA's volunteer screening process.

I lost my first comment so here goes again. I was thinking today how I would like to volunteer at either CFH or Red Cross to help with Katrina disaster. Dan is in favor of the whole church getting involved in some measure. Let's talk about it after you check out what things are available for us. Pat
AT this point, we are limiting our focus to 2 organizations--CFH or Salvation Army. Melinda J. is checking w/ SA and will post her findings.

Melinda J. got some good info from Samaritan's Purse, about providing temporary housing for victims--Shelter from the Storm --here's the site www.samaritanpurse.com/ look over this info and leave your comments.

If we ever plan to go out to Camp Gruber to do any ministry w/ the victims, we have to be screened ahead of time by either Salv. Army or Red Cross. We can't just show up on site, and expect to get in. Should we go ahead and do that?
